Payson beat Skyridge 8-4 in a nonregion contest. Despite trailing early, Payson surged ahead in the third inning with three runs, followed by additional scoring in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Myra Andrews went 2 for 4 at the plate hitting two home runs, each driving in a total of three runs for the Lions. Skyridge's Kaylie Power contributed in the late push, hitting a solo home run in the seventh inning, but it was not enough to prevent a loss in its first game.
