In a 3A state tournament winners bracket game at Spanish Fork Sports Complex, the No. 3 seed North Sanpete Hawks defeated the No. 6 seed Union Cougars, 9-5. "Good team win. We have three home runs for the three different girls. Two of them was their first home run of the year, big, big deal to be able to score runs one through nine," said North Sanpete coach Landon Bailey. The Hawks got off to a fast start, scoring four runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Union responded with a run in the top of the first, but they were unable to slow down North Sanpete's offense. The Hawks added another run in the third and two more in the fourth to extend their lead to 7-2. Union managed to score three runs in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-5, but North Sanpete answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach. Lucy Oldroyd led the way for North Sanpete with a monster game at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs. Madyson Steadman also hit a home run for the Hawks. Katelyn Johnson earned the win on the mound, striking out seven batters. For Union, Jaden Yazzie had a solid game, going 2 for 3 with a home run. However, it wasn't enough to overcome North Sanpete's potent offense. London Lamb took the loss, striking out four batters. Despite the loss, Union will have a chance to stay alive in the double elimination tournament, while North Sanpete moves on to the next round of the winners bracket.
