In a 3A state tournament winners bracket game at the Spanish Fork Sports Complex, the top-seeded Grantsville Cowboys faced off against the No. 9 seed South Summit Wildcats on May 11th. However, the Cowboys came out swinging and didn't look back. They scored three runs in each of the first three innings and seven runs in the fourth inning to end the game in a mercy rule with a final score of 16-0. "I just think it was confidence this year. I mean, we didn't have it last year. We were pretty inexperienced last year. These girls have been here. I start eight seniors, but I just think they have confidence. I just think they know what to expect. They know what to do. They're not overwhelmed by everything," said Grantsville coach Tony Cloward. Chloe Bytheway pitched a gem for the Cowboys, striking out eight batters and allowing just one hit in the shutout victory. Toshlyn Louder took the loss for the Wildcats. The key highlight of the game came in the fourth inning when Madison Butler hit a walk-off three-run homer to end the game. It was a great moment for the Cowboys and a tough one for the Wildcats. Grantsville had some impressive offensive performances in the game. Sophia Crosby went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs, while Addison Butler also went 4-for-4 with a home run and six RBIs. On the other side, Emma Broadbent had the lone hit for the Wildcats, going 1-for-2 at the plate. With the win, Grantsville moves on in the winners bracket of the tournament, while South Summit will now face an elimination game in their next matchup.
