Game Details - Softball

On May 11 at the Spanish Fork Sports Complex, the No. 2 seed Canyon View Falcons faced off against the No. 7 seed Morgan Trojans in a 3A state tournament winners bracket game. In a closely contested matchup, Canyon View emerged as the victors, winning by a score of 6-4. The game started off as a defensive battle, with both teams failing to score in the first two innings. In the top of the third, however, the Trojans got on the board with a 3-run inning, thanks in part to a home run by Elena Birkeland. The Falcons responded with a run in the bottom of the third and another in the fourth to cut the lead to 1. In the sixth inning, Canyon View took the lead with a 4-run outburst, highlighted by a bloop single from Kaylee Quintanilla that tied the game and a go-ahead RBI single by Payton Lister. Lister also came on in relief and pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing only 2 hits and securing the win for the Falcons. Quintanilla finished the game 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs, while Birkeland had a strong showing for the Trojans, going 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a home run.
