Defending 5A champion Lehi opened its state title defense with a road win as junior right-hander Sydney White threw a complete-game four-hitter and knocked in the Pioneers' first run. Lehi broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning on Rylin Roberts' leadoff double, a run-scoring Syracuse throwing error, and Brogan Kirby's RBI-single. Kayla Roberts also had a run-scoring single for the Pioneers. Abbey Bowden had a two-run single for Syracuse.
