The Dons earned the right to defend their 2006 title by edging the same team that sent them to the one-loss bracket on Tuesday night. Bingham scored first when freshman Chalese Fankhauser got on base with a single and then stole second. She scored when Jo Lail hit a single two batters later. Spanish countered in the top of the third with a one-run home run by Ashley Chappel and a two run home run by Lea Adamson. Both teams scored a run a piece in the fourth and then Spanish secured their berth into the 5A championship game with a double from Kylee Brinkerhoff and a double from Ashley Chappel that scored Brinkerhoff. Spanish Fork played without senior catcher Susan Cole, who had to be hospitalized with an illness after Wednesday's games. Tina Ferguson, a sophomore, took over catching duties. Spanish and Taylorsville square off at noon for the 5A title. If the Dons win the first game, the teams will play a second game. If the Warriors win, Taylorsville earns the title.
