Payson defeated Hurricane 3-2 in a five-set volleyball match Thursday night. Junior Maggie Letterman led the Lions with 17 kills while senior Lydia Francom added 12 kills in the back-and-forth contest that went to overtime. Senior Brooklyn Shirley orchestrated the offense with 45 assists, and the Lions' defense, led by junior Allie Mangum and senior Kaisley Wall, kept them in contention throughout. After dropping the third and fourth sets, Payson rallied to win the tiebreaker 15-13 for the nonregion victory.
