Grantsville Cowboys (13-14) | 13 | 11 | 13 | 0 |
vs North Sanpete Hawks (30-0) | 25 | 25 | 25 | 3 |
No team looked bettter in Monday's day one of the 3A tournament than top-seeded North Sanpete. The Hawks' message is clear, any team wanting to win the 3A title will have to go through them. North Sanpete's confidence makes complete sense when you look at its season record, a perfect 30-0. Through six sets on day one, North Sanpete went 6-0 and the most points it ever allowed in a set was 13. It is now headed to the semifinals after a dominant 3-0 sweep of Grantsville in the quarterfinals. Hawks' head coach Ricki Stewart said her team was only focused on playing well. "It's never the goal to hold a team below a certain amount," Stewart said. "Our goal is just to play clean on our side and we know if we can serve and pass, we're pretty hard to beat." Hawks' junior Rylee Stewart led the quarterfinal sweep with 21 kills and four aces. She also had 13 in its first-round matchup with Ben Lomond. Teya Bailey contributed on the net and on defense with six kills and 10 digs in the win. It was a day of the Hawks just dominating the games it should win, and now it moves to tomorrow with the 3A championship in sight. It would be North Sanpete's first championship since 2009. "It's the same message that it's been all season," coach Stewart said. "It's just, 'We win the next ball.' And that's been our focus. The goal was to never be undefeated. The goal was to be playing our best volleyball and just keep getting better as the season went on."
