TAYLORSVILLE - The Eagles held off two huge runs by the Bengals to win their first round game in the 5A girls basketball tournament Tuesday. Skyline defeated Brighton 44-42 in a game that started out all Eagles. But the Bengals came out the second half on fire and tied the game with just six second left on a steal and layup by Vanessa Hutson. On the very next play, Skyline center Carly Walton was fouled and made both foul shots to give the Eagles the lead with just 6.2 seconds left in the game. Brighton got off one shot but it bounced off the front of the rim as time expired. Skyline will play Alta on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the tournament's second round.
