TAYLORSVILLE - They Layton Lancers had a solid third quarter to pull away from Granger in the first round of the 5A Girls State Tournament Monday night. Layton hung on to win 49-43, despite a run by Granger in the fourth quarter. Layton was led by Sandra Sorenson, who finished with 21 points, including some important freethrows down the stretch. Granger had two players in double figures - Aisha Ale with 13 and Smith finished with 10 points. The Lancers will play the winner of the Bingham/Northridge game on Thursday.
