Springville (6-5) surged in the second half to defeat Highland (3-7) with a convincing 24-7 victory in the first round of the 5A playoffs. The Red Devils were scoreless in the first half but ignited their offense after the break, scoring 17 points in the third quarter. Quarterback Easton Leavitt connected with Reid Deede for a 39-yard touchdown pass and later found Jack Pickering for a 12-yard score to put the game out of reach. Lisiate Valeti powered the ground game with a 7-yard rushing touchdown and accumulated 178 yards on 29 carries. Highland's only points came in the second quarter via a 31-yard interception return by Charlie McConkie. Springville will advance to face No. 4 seed Timpview in the second round.
