In the second round of the 5A state tournament, No. 8 seed Brighton dominated No. 9 Woods Cross, 44-7. Brighton established an early lead, highlighted by a 50-yard run from Mason Haertel in the second quarter. By halftime, Brighton had amassed an insurmountable 24-0 lead. Jack Johnson tossed four touchdown passes in the win for the Bengals, one each to Mason Haertel, Beau LaFleur and Donovan Wismer as Brighton extended its lead to 37-0 heading into the fourth quarter. Brighton now looks ahead to competing against top-seeded Timpview in the 5A quarterfinals on Nov. 3.
