The 10th-seeded Desert Hills Thunder began their 4A title defense with a resounding 49-20 victory over 23rd-seed Hurricane Tigers in the opening round on Friday. Tytan Mason rushed for an impressive 242 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, and also added a receiving touchdown from Gerritt Grondel. Tigers started strong with a 68-yard pass to Gage Huntsman in the opening quarter but succumbed to Thunder's relentless attack. Grondel also connected with Javiyen Cummings for a 50-yard touchdown pass and added his own 10-yard run. With this win, Desert Hills advances to face No. 7 Snow Canyon.
