Nathan Pineda and Trey Bess each scored twice as No. 6 Maple Mountain beat No. 14 Salem Hills 5-3 in the 5A state tournament quarterfinals. Maple Mountain jumped out to an early lead with four first-half goals and held off Salem Hills, who got all three goals from Brooks Barker. The victory sends Maple Mountain to the 5A semifinals next week, where they will face No. 7 Hillcrest at Salt Lake Academy.
