SANDY The Bingham Miners are starting to find their groove, and the timing couldn't be better with the 5A state tournament just around the corner. Nick Shields blasted home a shot from Corey Ackerman in the first overtime as the fifth-ranked Miners blanked the third-ranked Jordan Beetdiggers 1-0. With the victory, Bingham narrowed Jordan's lead for second place in the Region 2 standings to just one point. Brighton leads with 28 points, and is followed by Jordan at 24 and Bingham at 23. "I kind of thought they outplayed us a little," said Bingham coach Lynn DeMille. "But we got the goal and they didn't." Bingham goalie T.J. Hendricksen kept the 'Diggers in check all game to earn his third shutout of the season. Shields' goal was his team-leading seventh of the season.
