A tight matchup between No. 8 Canyon View and No. 9 American Leadership Academy unraveled quickly as the Falcons dominated from start to finish against the Eagles in a 71-51 victory in the second round of the 3A state championship tournament. Senior guard Chad Hartmann tied his career-high in scoring and set a career-high in made 3-pointers, burying seven of them to lead all scorers with 26 points. Seniors Andrew Barnes and Jace Whittaker added 15 and 10 points, respectively. Canyon View will head downtown to Southern Utah University on Feb. 23 to take on No. 1 Manti in the quarterfinals. Senior forward Mason Farr led the Eagles with 25 points, while freshman Austin Taylor added 13 points. American Leadership finished its season with a 16-7 overall record.
