Payson's Brett Hiatt buried eight 3-pointers, six in the first half, to finish with 33 points in leading the Lions into the 4A semifinals. Payson led by as many as 10 early in the fourth quarter, but the Pirates' outstanding 3-point shooting helped them shave the deficit to two points with 3:41 remaining. Hiatt responded with another one of his 3-pointers, and Cyprus never got closer than three points again. Payson, which edged Highland at the buzzer in the opening round, sealed its quarterfinal win by making foul shots in the final minute.
