Neils Hendrickson scored 20 points and Rowdy Smith added 12 as the Thunderbirds advanced in the 1A tournament. Piute outscored Duchesne 18-1 in the second quarter to break the game open after trailing by five at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles made a late run to make the game interesting. Ben Farnsworth rattled in a 3-pointer with less than a minute to play to close Duchesne's deficit to 53-50. But Josh Kellum sank two free throws and Duchesne couldn't make another basket. Farnsworth led the Eagles with 13 points.
