ST. GEORGE � The Dixie Flyers broke open a 36-36 halftime tie with a 31-point third quarter en route to the 86-62 victory over Emery in Class 3A prep basketball action Wednesday night. Dixie junior Tom Whitehead scored a team-high 30 points, and 18 came in the decisive third quarter. "I thought we did a much better job of taking the ball inside," Dixie coach Ken Robinson said. "For a while it (our offense) was pass it around the perimeter and shoot a three-pointer." The Flyers (1-0) led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but the Spartans (0-1) fought back to take a two-point lead before the Flyers tied the score to end the half. Emery sophomore Bowie Jeffs led all scorers with 33 points and Seth Powell had 10 points. Shan Stilson finished with 16 points and Adam Christensen had 13 points for the Flyers.
