Payton Cummings led Grantsville's dynamic offense, going 2 for 4 with a double, a home run, and driving in five runs as No. 2 seed Grantsville made quick work of No. 10 seed Emery 11-1 against Emery in the opening game of the 3A state tournament bracket play at Lindquist Field. The Cowboys broke open a scoreless tie with a six-run third inning and continued their offensive barrage with three runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth. Patton Rose contributed by going 2 for 2 at the plate and adding three RBIs. Emery managed a single run in the third inning but was held at bay by Grantsville pitcher Jordan Fawson, who threw 5 1/3 innings with 10 strikeouts. Grantsville's bats tallied seven extra-base hits in the dominant performance. Both teams will resume tournament action on Tuesday.
