Payson took a narrow lead into the fourth inning before erupting with eight runs, led by Brigzen Houser, who went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs. Hillcrest managed to score its sole run in the fourth inning, while Payson's Cole Neves capped off the win with a home run accounting for two RBIs. Houser also earned the win on the mound, striking out 10 Hillcrest batters as the Lions played error-free defense. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday.
