In an intense elimination game of the 3A state tournament held on May 11 at Kearns High School, the No. 5 seed Union Cougars defeated the No. 7 seed Ogden Tigers with a score of 6-4. Despite an impressive performance by Ogden's pitcher Adrian Saenz, who recorded 12 strikeouts, Union's strong hitting and effective pitching secured the win. Union Cougars started the game strong, scoring one run in the first inning. Ogden Tigers responded with two runs in the third inning, taking a 2-1 lead. However, Union scored three runs in the fourth inning, followed by one run each in the fifth and sixth innings. Ogden scored two runs in the sixth inning but could not catch up with Union. Maddux Russell pitched effectively for the Union Cougars, recording four strikeouts. Paulina Hancock had an outstanding game, going 2 for 3 with a double, home run, and four RBIs. Maddux Russell also had a great performance, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Despite the loss, Ogden Tigers put up a tough fight, and Adrian Saenz had an impressive game, recording 12 strikeouts. Union Cougars will move forward in the tournament, while Ogden Tigers' season comes to an end.
