In the first round of the Class 3A state tournament, Juan Diego High School defeated Richfield High School with a final score of 12-2. The game was played at Canyon View High School. Juan Diego got off to a strong start, scoring two runs in the first inning, followed by three more in the second. Richfield managed to score two runs in the top of the first inning, but was unable to produce any more offense for the rest of the game. The Juan Diego offense was led by Castle Huggard, who hit a home run and had three RBIs, and Caden Fenger, who drove in two runs. Andrew Lombana was the winning pitcher, striking out eight batters in the game. Griffin Wayman took the loss for Richfield, striking out three batters. With this win, Juan Diego advances to the next round of the double elimination tournament. Richfield, on the other hand, will now have to win their next game to stay alive in the tournament.
