Alta took a 5-0 lead into the sixth behind the pitching of Tyson Knowles, who didn't give up a hit until the fourth inning and allowed only three hits through six. But the Dons scored twice in the bottom of the sixth and then tacked two more on in the seventh to cut the Hawks' lead to 5-4. In the final frame, Spanish Fork was in position to force extra innings or win the game with runners on first and third and nobody out. But on Kurt Daley's fly ball to short right field the runner from third tagged and was thrown out at home on a close call. The throw was high, but catcher Jefferson Court was able to leap up and recovered in time to make the tag on the runner, who appeared to slide short of the plate. Then, with the tying run on second, Tyler Hanks popped out to first to end the game.
